SteamWorld Heist Sales + Language Update

Howdy, partners! I’ve got a lot of things to share with you today, so let’s get cracking. I’ll start with a question many of you have asked over the past month:

Is SteamWorld Heist successful?

Yes, it is! So far SteamWorld Heist is an even bigger success than SteamWorld Dig. Not just in terms of sales: Reviews and community feedback are through the roof!

At the time of writing SteamWorld Heist is tied with Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate for the highest rated 3DS game of 2015 (not counting remakes), according to Metacritic. We have no sales figures to share today, but rest assured we’re very pleased with the numbers.

Before our inflated egos won’t fit through the front door anymore we’d like to thank you. Without your support this wouldn’t have been possible!

SteamWorld Heist update

The first SteamWorld Heist update (containing the French, Italian, German, Spanish and Russian translations) was originally planned for release on Nintendo 3DS this month. Time constraints have pushed this forward a bit.

We’re working hard to ensure it’s downright excellent and expect to have the update out before you know it. To make up for the delay we’re throwing in new surprises and lots of polish. Stay tuned!

We’re leaving Instagram…

A new year often brings its healthy dose of changes. After reflecting on our social media activity of 2015 we realized we’ve been spreading ourselves too thin across one too many channels. This resulted in a lack of content and interactions with you.

So for 2016 we’re switching things around. Here are the news that might affect you:

  1. We’re leaving Instagram to focus on our main channels (Twitter, YouTube and Facebook). We’ll keep the account for now, but won’t be active.
  2. We’ll listen to and engage more actively with gamers on Reddit, NeoGAF, Miiverse and similar communities (we won’t hijack every thread, don’t worry).
  3. Video will play a bigger part in our community dialogue.
A "blub" says more than a thousand words.

You’ll get more than a “blub” from us online!

Full steam ahead!

So 2016 is off to a great start! We’ve got tons of stuff to share with you in the coming 12 months. Stuff like the next SteamWorld Heist platform(s), behind-the-scenes footage and a multitude of awesome surprises (some of which we aren’t even aware of ourselves).

What do you want to see from us in 2016?

Let us know in the comments below!

  • Cameron

What do I want to see from you this year? Just keep doing what you’re doing. As far as I’m concerned, you guys are the best in the indie business and whatever you have planned will be awesome!

    • We’ll keep doing what we always do, then! 😀 Thanks a bunch for your fantastic words <3

  • Keep up the great work guys. I was so impressed with Steamworld Heist that I was forced to buy Steamworld Dig! Both are great titles and deserve all of the praise that they get!

  • Randark

Loved both SteamWorld Titles Still playing through Heist as I am determined to get 3 starts on each mission.

Do you have more Steamworld games planned?

    • We’ve got more games planned, yes! But only after we’re done with SteamWorld Heist 😀

  • Good decisions imo. I’m not active on Instagram, but mainly on Twitter (and less on YouTube and Facebook). I think those The Engine Room videos and Q&A videos on YouTube are too awesome to leave for what it is, so I’m happy to hear you’ll be doing stuff with video.

    • Sad to let it go, but we’ll be able to create more fun stuff 😀

  • Alex

I want you guys to try you hardest, and build up all the hype to an up most peak for the HD releases. I can’t wait to play and add another 50 hours to my playtime with Heist. It’s a truly enjoyable experience that everyone should at least try.

  • VonSeux

amazing, this game could/should go retail since it’s longer than most retail games anyway :p i love it!

    • We’d love that, but no plans at the moment! Thanks <3

  • gerb1977

Can’t wait to play on my Wii U in glorious HD…..for now I’m enjoying the 3D

    • Coming later this year! 😀 Same for PS Vita, @kjelljesus:disqus!

  • Kjell-jesus

A Ps Vita port would be nice 🙂

  • The game is great but I would like to see better support from your company. I tried contacting you guys VIA phone, email, and Twiitter the past 4 weeks, but I received no answers. I’ve only played the game for 2 hours and because of the lousy support I am tempted to try to get a refund from Nintendo.

    • Yo, Mason! Sorry for your experience. Please email me with you problem and I’ll get back to you ASAP 🙂 We receive a lot of emails and tweets every day and even though we never mean for it to happen some messages might accidentally be left unanswered due to the sheer amount of people reaching out to us. My personal address is, feel free to use it!

      • I sent you an email a little while ago and I received no response.

    Hey guys,

    Phew, where to start…
Well first of all, thanks for making such a great game!
I’ve just finished my third run. Beating the game on elite was a mighty challenge!

I want to have all the hats! but I can’t find a reliable way to make them spawn.
Do you guys have any hints for me?
Is there any difference between difficulties on the bosses their hp?
For some reason I had the least amount of effort on elite difficulty.
That could’ve been me just getting used to the bosses and their attacks(/suprises)

OH and I found a glitch(?), in the third and final arc of the game.
Sometimes when I go up on the ladder, in to another room and then proceed to aiming,
the character makes a falling animation.(he stays in place though)
It’s just a quick b tap to cancel aiming, end then I can aim, shoot, heal, the works.
    I’m playing on a PAL 2ds, so maybe that’s why…

*sigh* I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I would love some DLC!
Maybe some more battle arena’s, that are so difficult that you would get 3 stars if just one of your automatons survived.
But my love for difficulty is pretty niche, so that’s bad advice I guess.

As I’m listening to the soundtrack I can’t wait to hear more from you guys!
Best of luck to you all!

    • Thanks a bunch! We’re considering most things you suggested 😀

  • Flesk

What I most want to see from you in 2016 is SteamWorld Heist for Linux. 🙂 I get all the info I need through Twitter, so as long as you keep posting there, I’m happy.

  • Carlos Frederico

And some news about steam version and Portuguese language (Brazilian or Portuguese, it does not matter :D) ??? 🙁

    • Might happen in Steam version, but nothing confirmed 🙂

  • Kiliano Lopes

DLCs please! A finish the game 2 times. is realy GREAT! I love it!

  • If you just keep doing thinks like you do it will be great.

You’ve listened to us gamers during the process of making SteamWorld Heist with more passion that we could expect!

You’re awesome and I’m sure you’ll keep amazing us

    • Thanks a bunch! We’ll do our best and learn new things. That’s the goal, at least 🙂

  • Alex

One other thing I’d like to see is a retail release and a amiibo! You guys should totally kick start that, I’d looooove to see those! <3

    • I’d personally love that. We’ll share our stance on amiibo in the coming weeks 🙂

      • Alex

Wonderful! I’ve jumped on the amiibo train, I now have three. Including Shovel Knight. Wonderful indie developers like yourselves deserve such an awesome privilege.

  • Coffee High

Bought steamworld heist for my son for Christmas and, unexpectedly, it’s his favorite game on the 3DS! I really didn’t expect him to love it quite that much, but his face was glowing when he turned on his 3DS after all the presents were opened and the Steamworld heist 3DS system theme started! Great game guys! Can’t wait till the Xbox one version so I can play it!

    • Coffee High

Actually, I am replying to myself here, but here are some things to consider doing.
      1. Getting a Lego or (better yet) a mega blocks contract for the Steam world universe. Building the worlds would be fun for everyone!
      2. How about some 6 inch tall action figures??? How cool would it be to play with the robots? There would also HAVE TO BE Steam powered Giraffe action figures!
      3. Special limited edition boxed sets. For 3DS, a pack containing physical cartridges of Heist and Dig, The SPG soundtrack, collector trading card set, and a bag of steam… (Only joking!) For home consoles, how about a disc set of the Steamworld games and soundtrack and a statue of the Piper at the bar listening to Steam Powered Giraffe perform, or action figures of the same.
How much would I pay??? Oh, I could easily see the 3DS version fetch $60 and sell out fast! The console version I’d pay up to $200 for that, if it was as beautiful as I imagine it would be… And it would also sell out!

      • Limited editions would be killer! Same with other merch. We’ve got t-shirts at the moment:

So happy to hear your family is enjoying the game! That keeps us going for months, for real 😀 Thanks for playing!

  • nicole

hi guys i dont know if i’ve come to right section. i need help. i’m loving the game steamworld dig – but now it wont work. Its saying : error while loading : failed to open any OpenAL device. Please verify game cache integrity. i verified game…. please help… my email address is

    • Hi Nicole! Email your description of the problem (including region, platform and/or operative system) to me and I’ll let our devs have a look at it. My address is 🙂

  • BarryDunne

Is a 3d SteamWorld game on the way? I wonder……😉

  • Biggest things I want is a physical release of Steamworld Dig and Steamworld Heist, and an amiibo/figure or two of Piper and/or Rusty. I LOVED Steamworld Dig so much that it’s actually one of my favortite games of all time. I’ve done probably about 10 playthroughs and own it on all the things I can get it on. Maybe you could collaborate with Limited Run Games for a physical release. They released physical copies of a few other indie games, and seem to have a great track record. But most importantly, I want you to keep making amazing games.

  • Seb Skizomeuh

Short term: I would love an expansion dlc for Heist on 3ds.

Long term: a new game in Steamworld’s universe, with an unexpected gameplay like you did with Heist. Openworld-y would be great…

    • Appreciate that! New things are coming in the first update 😀

  • Maude St. Nubbins

Easily my favorite game of 2015, so immediately fun, polished and addictive. I loved Steamworld Dig, but Heist clicks with me in the most perfect ways. My only critique is the inventory system- it discourages loadout experimentation and (at least to me) doesn’t feel like it adds anything to the strategy. Small nitpick, but just wanted to throw it out there. Like other commenters, I’d love to see DLC for this game, I’ll happily spend to extend the experience. 🙂

    • Thanks a bunch, @maudestnubbins:disqus! Be sure to vote for SteamWorld Heist in the Gaming Awards. It’s nominated as Mobiel Game of The Year. Here’s a link where you can vote:

We’re addressing the inventory issue in the update 😀 We’re thinking heavily about expanding the game with DLC 🙂

  • MAX

Will the PC version use stereoscopic 3D feature?

when it comes out the update for the Italian language on STH ? I ‘m looking forward !
