Why Wii U Is A Perfect Platform For SteamWorld Dig

The cat’s outta the bag: SteamWorld Dig is coming to Wii U. That’s right! No kidding. No need to pinch yourself. Pinky swear. We listen to each and every one of you, and the number one request we’ve gotten by far is to let you next-gen Nintendo console gamers get some of our dirt-diggin’ steampunk cowbot action adventure game. Frankly, we’ve always wanted to. And now that we’re Wii U developers (maybe you saw our teaser last week?) we can finally make it happen!

We think Wii U is perfect for SteamWorld Dig for two reasons:

  1. You guys have asked for it.
  2. We’re massive Nintendo fans.

We’re aiming for a fall 2014 release and are overjoyed by the fact that we’ll soon have our very first release on a Nintendo home console! It may relate to the fact that most of us at Image & Form have been major Nintendo fans since childhood. And judging from all the Nintendo stuff around our office you’d think we’re at the Nintendo HQ in Kyoto!

Wii U is a powerhouse, which is extremely cool. The Wii U GamePad and Miiverse are fun to explore but we’ve yet to decide on how we’ll utilize them. Anyway we’re certain that SteamWorld Dig is perfect for Wii U. We’ll share more details with you, such as release date, price and other cool stuff, in the coming months.

Please, be excited!

We showed you ours, now it’s time for you to show us your Nintendo stuff! Games, toys, figurines, magazines, consoles… anything! Why not snap a pic and share it with us in the comments? 😀

This is awesome news guys! Can’t wait to see what else you have to bring to the Wii U!

    • Thanks, man! Love the enthusiasm 😀 What would you like to see?

  • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Lovely :D. TIME TO DOUBLE DIP!!!

    • Haha! That sounds dirty 😉 jk lol. On which platform have you played it? 🙂

      • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

        3DS :>

        • Good choice! Really like that version as well. It was the first I ever played. Do you have pics of any cool Nintendo stuff? 😀

          • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Nah I dont keep much around the office XD

          • Wish I could say the same! My desk is usually cluttered with stuff x)

  • jpelgrom

    That’s a lot of ™s…

    • Haha, yeah! That’s one thing we in the industry have to deal with. Hope it didn’t ruin your reading experience x(

  • This is awesome news! Especially since I don’t have SteamWorld Dig on my 3DS…(feeling shameful) So I am so glad I will be able to dig into SteamWorld on my Wii U soon!

Also you wanted us to share and it would be wrong if I didn’t show off my collection of PNM magazines! Purenintendo.com/magazine

  • Eduardo Martins

I want Daisy in SteamWorld Wii U!

This is awesome news! Especially since I don’t have SteamWorld Dig on my 3DS (feeling shameful)… So I am so glad I will be able to dig into SteamWorld on my Wii U soon! (See what I did there?!)

Also you wanted us to share and it would be wrong if I didn’t show off my collection of PNM magazines! PureNintendo.com/magazine

    • Cool! Awesome stuff 😀 no worries, that’s exactly one of our many reasons to porr Dig to Wii U, so that more people will be able to play it 😀 I’m a fan of the mag! Do you write for it?

      • Yes I do! I am actually the Assitant Editor at Pure Nintendo. Unfortunately that comment was made without me signed in! 🙁 But I am so excited for SteamWorld Dig on Wii U! I really need to get this on 3DS. So glad that you are a fan of PNM too!

        • Wow! What an honor to e-meet you 😀 cool! What’s coming up for PNM in the future? Any special secret features you wanna share/leak? ;D jk

          • Nice to meet you as well! I don’t know how often you are on Twitter but I followed you there (I am @JMoneyPN on Twitter)! Nothing to really leak but we are always looking for new ways to improve or add to PNM! We will be featuring The Question Block for the first time next issue where readers can send in letters that we will respond to and publish in PNM. We also just announced that PNM is going digital only (http://purenintendo.com/2014/06/06/pnm-is-passing-on-print-to-focus-on-digital-presence/). We would love to do an interview with Image & Form about the upcoming release of SteamWorld Dig on Wii U to feature in PNM!

          • Thanks, I’m on Twitter daily, will follow you back 😀

Too bad, but I guess going digital is the future, isn’t it? We’d love to be interviewed, just send us a tweet at @ImageForm or e-mail Brjann@imageform.se and we’ll schedule an appointment soon-ish. Depending on when we do the interview I think you’re gonna want to ask us about a few other things than SWD on Wii U ;D

          • We will be sure to give you guys a shout! I guess that means you guys have more that you’ll be revealing soon! 😉 So excited! And thanks for the follow btw! 😀

          • Thanks, man! I hope you’re gonna like what we have to show in the future ;D

  • After playing -and finished- two versions of Steam World Dig (3DS and PC) I’ve always wanted to play it on a dual screen way, but with great detail and HD…I think the Wii U version will be the best of all. Can´t wait to play this game…again!

    • We think Woi U will be a really nice fit. I’ve been looking forward to that as well 🙂 do you play a lot of Wii U games?

  • Marcos Crill Colon

You guys rock Thanks for surporting the wii u when most devs are to lazy too ..day one purchase for me ..and here’s a pic of my 2 iPads 4’s and my 3ds and yes I did the customizing myself

    • Cool! We try to support every possible platform and Wii U is defintely on that list 🙂 Cool stuff you’ve got! Where can I buy those iPad stickers? D:

Here are a few of my personal Ninty treasures:

      • Here’s the picture x)

      • Marcos Crill Colon

Thanks I got me them of off ebay and I also found the iPad glass and bezel on there also ..and I’ll make sure the word is spread to all my Nintendo loving friends and also my Xbox friends about this game and how great you guys are ..more devs need to be like you guys ..most devs say the install base needs to grow before they invest in wii u but will turn around and make there game for x1 or ps4 when they all have around the same sales by now but thanks again I will be buying 2 copy’s of this for me and my kids 🙂

        • Thanks! Will look into buying some stickers for myself! 😀

We love word-of-mouth! Thanks for spreading the love! Would it be ok with you if we featured your pic in a future blog? Of course we’ll credit you 😀

          • Marcos Crill Colon

You guys rock of course you can use it I don’t mind at all ..I wish you guys the best and keep making them great games us gamers love 🙂

          • You’re the one who rocks 😉 hope you and your kids have fun with the game 😀

  • Tace

As someone who owns SWD on the 3DS, I’m definetly getting this day one. My missus and son will enjoy this and I want to support you guys. Image & Form + 1. Keep it up.

    • Thanks, man! Hope your family will enjoy it! Do you play a lot of games together? 🙂

  • great news! Now I will have to find time to play two of my fav games

    • So SWD is up there with MK8!? Insane 😀 Thanks! It’s awesome to hear! We’re planning a blog post soon where we feature some of you Ninty pics. Would it be ok I we featured yours as well? We’ll credit you, ofc. 🙂

  • Christian Bartelius

    Majblomma!! 😀

    • You know it! No idea on which year’s design it is, though. Are you an expert in the field of Majblomman?

  • Clayton

Sounds great!! I have the 3DS version and like it very much, though I think I’d like it even better on a home console! 🙂 I noticed there have been promotions lately determined by users’ NNID history (aka loyalty discount for buying other games by a developer). Is there any possibility of a Cross-Buy for SteamWorld Dig? I don’t know that I’d double dip, but being able to play on either console by buying the game would be absolutely fantastic! 🙂

    • Awesome 😀 If you snap a pic of some of your favourite Ninty goodies I’ll see if I can pull a few strings to make it happen 😉 haha, but seriously, YES, we’re seriously looking into it 🙂

      • Clayton

You guys are super cool! I’ve got way too many Nintendo goodies….I will get a good pic of something tomorrow 🙂

        • Awesome! Here’s a little something to get your inspiration going 😀 And yes, meeting Charles was mindbogglingly fun 😀

          • Clayton

You know it’s funny, I got to talk to him for a long time when he was doing one of his Nintendo World appearances. Granted, I was talking to Mario and Wario, but he was so delightful. 🙂 Will have some kind of a pic soon 🙂

          • Haha, same with me at E3 last year. Felt kind of surreal talking to one of my childhood heroes like that. Charles is an incredibly cheerful and caring person. I get the feeling that he’s totally in love with his job and that he can’t get enough of meeting his fans. Truly inspiring 😀

  • Adrian Brown

Awesome. You can expect a buy from this humble gamer.

    • Awesome! Thanks 🙂 will it be your first version or are you double-dipping? 😉

      • Adrian Brown

first version, once I wanted to download it for 3DS but couldn’t. This time I won’t make that mistake again haha

        • You know what they say, second time’s a charm 😉 Or was it third? Fourth, maybe? I can’t remember x) Anyway… I think you’re gonna love it then. A lot of people come up to us and tell us they got totally hooked with Dig and couldn’t let go until they had finished it. What games do you usually play? 🙂

          • Adrian Brown

I love exploration games like Zelda and Metroid, that’s why I’ interested in SWD. I have a question. Does the game include an acchievement-like system? And finally this is my Ninty treasure in case you wanna share it in your blog 🙂

          • Metroid is a favorite of mine 😀 The game has achievements on Steam and PS. No word from our devs if it’ll have it on Wii U. I’ll let them know that you have asked for it! Thanks for the pic! Awesome skin ;D

          • Adrian Brown

Yes please, that would extend the game’s replay value. Thanks!

          • I agree! Can’t make any promises but I’ll see what we can do! Thanks again 🙂

  • SecretX

    this is good news.

    • It is! Have you played Dig? 🙂

      • SecretX

no i haven’t. but i will when the game comes out for wiiu. 😀

        • Oh, then you’re in for a treat 😀 Do you enjoy your Wii U?

          • SecretX

Of course i enjoy my wiiu. play it everyday.

          • Expected nothing less 😉 I like it a lot, as well.

    • Mikael Forslind

We’re really glad to hear that. It’s going to be really exciting releasing on the Wii U. I’ve always been a fan of Nintendo. That Zelda tattoo on my arm in the original post kinda gives that away 😉

  • I got my Super Mario 3D World soundtrack if you want:

Congrats on becoming Wii U developers!!! 😀

    • Cool! Is that some special limited edition thingie? Would it be ok if we featured your pic together with a few others in a blog post next week? 😀 of course we’ll credit you 😀

      • Sure you can feature it!! The soundtrack is a Club Nintendo exclusive in Europe. 😉

  • Mirby

Man I love this game on 3DS, I made sure a friend of mine got it on Steam, and I’ll totally get this on Wii U when it comes out.

I also have a lot of things like posters and plushies and a 3DS autographed by Reggie Fils-Aime…

    • That Reggie scribble is so cool! Wish I had that as well. Do you think the John Hancock of Brjann would be worth something?

      • Mirby

To the right buyer, yeah probably. Haha

Might wanna preload the systems with the game though 😀

        • Haha, yeah. I guess only the most hardcore Image & Form fan would pay a big chunk of money for that. Or am I wrong? Maybe it’s worth researching. I’ll hear what Brjann has to say about it 😉

  • Guest

    Here’s my collection! 😀
I’d take a few shots of my games ‘n consoles but most of them are hidden away in a drawer and that’s too much effort~ ;P

  • Guest

Here’s my collection! 😀 I’d take a few shots of my consoles ‘n games but most of those are in a closet or in a big pile of games.

  • Martin van der Wolf

Here’s my collection! 😀 I’d take a few shots of my consoles ‘n games but most of those are in a closet or in a big pile of games.

    • Awesome collection! I can see the pics just fine 😀 where did you get all that stuff from? 😀

      • Martin van der Wolf

Most of the Mario figurines are from McDonalds, hahaha. Isabelle was a Christmas gift from a friend, Luigi was a Club Nintendo thingy. Link and Phantom Zelda are from the Spirit Tracks Limited Edition, Blue Shell from the Mario Kart 8 special edition. Ganondorf was the Wind Waker HD remake Limited Edition. 🙂

        Speaking of Limited Editions..

        • Haha, you’re quite the collector! Living the sweet life, huh? 😉 what’s the best part about working at a game store, you think?

  • Mats

Yay! Love it on the 3DS, will buy day one for Wii U.

  • So many Nintendo related things that I own, but here are some of the best. Might add more if I can find the old pics, or take new ones! 🙂

    • That Samus figurine! D: did it come in that pose or does it have movable parts? 🙂

  • finchiekins

Here is my tiny Nintendo shelf! I need to clean it up and organize it a bit. <3 SteamWorld Dig!

    • finchiekins

Hm, not sure if it uploaded…

      • Nice retro collection 😀 Mikael at Image & Form is a huge retro gamer. A big fan of NES. How many Game & Watch do you have? 😀

        • finchiekins

Thanks! I have Ball, Lifeboat, Octopus, the silver release of Fire and the three Micro Vs systems: Punch-Out!!/Boxing, Donkey Kong 3, and Donkey Kong Hockey.

          • Cool! I have the dual screen DK one. Never heard of DK Hockey. Is it any good?

          • finchiekins

I like it a lot. It’s most like a G&W version of Pong. The puck bounces around the screen and you block it from hitting one side or the other with your player. With all these games, you have to kind of put yourself in the time they were released, but it’s still fun to play, even if it is dated.

          • Yeah, you have to have a little bit of imagination to get some fun out of them, personally. I thoroughly enjoyed the Game & Watch collections on the Game Boy. Played them?

          • finchiekins

Yeah, I played the first. It’s pretty cool! It’s still a lot of fun to sit down and try to beat your old score.

          • Yeah! Did you know there is a hidden Game & Watch game in the 3DS music player? http://blogs.ocweekly.com/heardmentality/Game%20n%20Watch%203DS.JPG
