What’s next for Image & Form?

Howdy, partners! How are you? I thought I’d give you a brief update on the SteamWorld Heist development status and use this opportunity to answer some frequently asked questions about what we’re currently up to.

SteamWorld Heist is out and it feels great!

SteamWorld Heist is out on Steam, PS4/Vita, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS and iOS. It’s taken us three years to come this far. Three years?! Yeah, that’s right. It’s a long time and at this point we’re more than ready to let Captain Piper and her hearty crew steer the ship on their own. Knowing our rag-tag robots are in your capable hands feels great. Thanks for your support in making SteamWorld Heist a resounding success!

SteamWorld Heist was awarded the prestigious "Editors' Choice" on the App Store.

SteamWorld Heist was awarded the prestigious “Editors’ Choice” on the App Store.

Will there be more content for SteamWorld Heist?

We’re not ruling out the possibility, but on the other hand we don’t have any plans for big content updates or DLC.

What about Android and Xbox One?

The plan was to release SteamWorld Heist on Xbox One and Android this year. While those versions may still happen in the future, we’re frantically working on a new game that’s eating up more and more time. At Image & Form we’re only 18 people and always have to choose our next venture carefully. Because of time constraints we’ve decided to focus on the new title and put the Android and Xbox One versions of Heist on hold.

I understand this is a letdown for many of you. Please ask me any questions about our decision in the comments. I’ll be happy to answer 🙂

So, what are we working on?

We’re cooking up something special for Nintendo Switch. It’s a secret for now and we’ll announce the game when the time’s ready! Follow us on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube to stay up to date with our latest news. I think you’ll be happy to learn what it is 😉

SteamWorld Heist Out Now on Wii U in EU + Contest

Howdy, everyone!

Today is a happy, happy day as SteamWorld Heist finally hits Wii U in Europe. And America is next in line with the game releasing there on Wii U in early October.

Here’s the Wii U launch trailer:

Though its full price is €19.99 / £14.99, we have a couple of launch promotions between 30th September and 13th October:

  • 25% off at launch = €14.99 / £10.99.
  • If you already own SteamWorld Heist or SteamWorld Dig for 3DS or Wii U, you actually get 33% off at launch = €13.39 / £9.99

I’m sure this makes the Wii U version a little more tempting for many of you! These deals only apply to the Nintendo eShop version, naturally, not on SteamWorld Collection (Dig and Heist + The Outsider DLC on the same disc) in stores. Alongside the eShop version of Heist is three DLC packs, including The Outsider expansion.

To boil down every Wii U launch detail we visited a giant Nintendo museum to shoot a very special Engine Room episode. Check it out for all the details and an exciting contest! I hope you will find our shenanigans and musings entertaining to watch 😀

Will you buy SteamWorld Heist on disc or from Nintendo eShop?

SteamWorld Heist Three 4 Free DLC Hatbox

SteamWorld Heist: 25% Steam Sale + New Hat DLC

Howdy, everyone!

This week SteamWorld Heist is 25% off on Steam for Windows, Mac and Linux. SteamWorld Dig is 75% off during the same period. We’re almost giving away that one! If the discounts aren’t showing for you yet, return in a few hours and they should be live in your region.

To celebrate, we’re launching two new Hatbox DLCs for SteamWorld Heist on Steam (the rest of the platforms are coming shortly after), bringing you a total of thirteen never-before-seen hats for your robots to don in battle! The first hatbox is free, and features the winners of our recent community hat design contest.

Hatbox: Three 4 Free (SteamWorld Heist)

The star of this headgear vaudeville is “Hatful Eight + 2”. A box of ten fresh hats inspired by classic sci-fi and fantasy. We’ve thrown some intriguing SteamWorld lore in there as well. Eight of the new hats are animated and very lively, so keep your eyes peeled for sudden movements!

Finally, we use this opportunity to release a new update for SteamWorld Heist on Windows, Mac and Linux. It includes a bunch of minor bug fixes and other improvements. Thanks for reporting your feedback to us on social media and in the forums. We love it!

Original article:

Howdy, partners!

We’re taking a short summer break until August 1. We’ll be mostly offline during this time, so don’t worry if we don’t get back to you right away. Once we’re back from the beach we’ll talk with you as usual! In the meantime we have a competition for you, in which you can create in-game content for SteamWorld Heist. The winners will get free SteamWorld games and exclusive info on future titles.

Check the video for full details (or scroll down to read what’s up):

The SteamWorld Ambassador Challenges Return

Thanks to your incredible support and outcry for more, the SteamWorld Ambassador Challenges finally make a grand return! We’d like you to design a hat that will appear in SteamWorld Heist as part of a DLC hat pack. A quick sketch on a napkin or on your phone will do just fine. Our artists will then choose their favorites and incorporate them in the game. Please name the hat and give it a short backstory!

As you know, steambots are crazy about hats. A sort of hat fetish, if you like. It’s central to their existence to wear a cool headpiece. Hats are collectibles you can equip your band of rag-tag robots with (you can even shoot off enemy hats and wear them). Players are loving this!

A simple sketch of your hat design will work just fine!

What you can win

The winners will become SteamWorld Ambassadors. As a SteamWorld Ambassador you’ll get free keys for every version of every SteamWorld game. Ever. We’ll even add a few spares you can give to your friends. You and the other Ambassadors also get access to exclusive information about the SteamWorld games as they progress. This is done in our private Facebook group.

Rules and how to enter

Upload your hats (and ask any questions) in the comments below. We need your designs by Sunday July 31 at 23:59 CEST (EU) / 5:59 PM EDT (NA). We’ll pick the winners once we’re back from our summer break and will reveal the new SteamWorld Ambassadors in early August. By submitting your creations you give us the rights to freely use them in our products, services and marketing assets.

We also reserve the right to judge whether the winning entry appears in the final game or not, and might alter the design to fit it the game’s art style. If no suitable entry is submitted before the deadline we’ll still choose a winner that gets all rewards mentioned above.

Create your entry freely, but let’s keep it safe for work and enjoyable for anyone!

Hit us with your best (hat) shot! Good luck and happy summer 😀

SteamWorld Heist gets delayed on PlayStation.

SteamWorld Heist Delayed for PlayStation + New Release Dates

Howdy, everyone! We’ve got somewhat sad news to share with you today. But fear not, it’s not the end of the world!

SteamWorld Heist has been delayed on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita for roughly one week. The new target release dates are June 7th for North America and June 8th for Europe and Australia.

The reasons for the delay are related to publishing, localisation and quality assurance. We basically encountered a few scattered problems with the PlayStation versions that we have to fix before releasing the game. If you want more info, feel free to ask me directly in the comment section. The extra week will hopefully give us enough time to fix these issues.

We’re working closely together with the fantastic people over at Sony to get the game out as fast as possible. Thanks for being patient with us!

Everything will be alright!

There, there… Everything will be alright.

The silver lining: AKA “reasons why the delay isn’t all that bad”:

  1. You’ll get an even better version of SteamWorld Heist when it hits PlayStation. Lame excuse, I know, but it’s true!
  2. You have a few more days to clear your backlog and/or your clutter (I’m looking at you, messy wardrobe!).
  3. You’ll have another week to pre-order the game for a nice discount if you’re in Europe or Australia.
  4. You can finally get around to watching Game of Thrones, or another show you’ve been putting off watching for ages.
  5. You can practice speedrunning SteamWorld Dig. The current world record is 22 minutes and 57 seconds (crazy!). Think you can beat that?

I could go on forever. Think I’ve missed something? Let me know in the comment section!

Gameplay footage + Giveaway

Price, Cross-buy, Launch Discount and DLC

SteamWorld Heist will launch simultaneously in the Americas, Europe, and Australia. It comes with a slew of wonderful languages and will also be cross-buy. We did a PS4/Vita cross-buy when we launched SteamWorld Dig on PlayStation back in 2014, so doing it again was a no-brainer.

The full price will be $19.99 / €19.99 / £15.99 (or the equivalent), but to celebrate SteamWorld Heist’s HD debut we’re also treating PlayStation gamers to a 15% discount. If you’re in Europe or Australia, the game is available for pre-order from today and you can enjoy the discount in the two weeks until launch. Our friends in the Americas will get the discount at launch. Make sure to check the PlayStation Store for more info once the SteamWorld Heist game page is up and running in your region!

Also, The Outsider DLC will be available on both PS4 and PS Vita from day one. Exciting times!

SteamWorld Heist: The Outsider DLC Trailer + Price

On April 28 we introduce The Outsider – Image & Form’s first add-on content (DLC) for the studio’s acclaimed strategy shooter SteamWorld Heist on Nintendo 3DS. The Outsider will cost $4.99/€4.99/£4.49 or the equivalent.

Check out the trailer:

Meet Fen: the latest member of your Heist crew, and the most unlikely of allies. A Vectron outcast, Fen breaks the ties to the hive mind and becomes one of your most formidable fighters.

fen_screenshot_01 fen_screenshot_02

How to play

The Outsider is not a conventional add-on. The new plot, missions, enemies, end boss, guns, utilities and dozens of new hats – of course! – blend seamlessly into the game. This means that, aside from starting afresh, you can pick up earlier save profiles, discover the history of Fen, and add the character to your roster pretty much immediately. And what an addition it is!

“Fen’s got some really fearsome firepower and clever upgrade mechanics that turn kills into own health and massive damage to others,” says Image & Form CEO Brjann Sigurgeirsson. “Busting up metal has never been this rewarding!”

Five new languages + Free Update

Outside of The Outsider, April 28 also sees a substantial free update to SteamWorld Heist itself. Players that prefer to have their steam-driven robots speak in French, German, Italian, Spanish or Russian will be happy, and due to popular demand we’ve also expanded the inventory a bit – now you have more empty slots from the outset, and getting new slots will be less taxing on your water reserves. And there’s more utilities. Oh, and even more weird hats.

Installing the free update makes The Outsider available from within SteamWorld Heist.

What’s your first impression of Fen?
